# Review: Frasers House, a Luxury Collection Hotel

Frasers House is the latest name for the property that used to be InterContinental Singapore. The hotel moved into The Luxury Collection after the InterContinental contract ended, which made it an interesting one to try with Marriott Bonvoy points. The property is owned by Frasers Property, a Thai-owned group. I had been here a few years earlier when a friend invited me for afternoon tea, but I had never stayed overnight.

We booked one night over National Day, on 9 August 2026, for 44,800 Marriott Bonvoy points on a PointSavers Redemption Rate. That was an opening block rate when the hotel first joined Marriott, and it was a steal compared with the much higher dynamic prices showing now. The points rate is therefore an important part of this review. I liked the stay enough to come back, although Marriott’s recent devaluation makes the higher points rates now showing harder to justify.

[Marriott describes The Luxury Collection](https://www.marriott.com/en-gb/brands.mi) as a collection of iconic hotels that define their destinations. The marketing language is grander than I would normally use, but Frasers House does have a reasonable claim to the destination part. The Peranakan character, the shophouse-style suites and the decorative details carry through the property, rather than appearing as a few objects placed in an otherwise generic hotel.

The name fits best because the hotel has its own identity. It is not a newly built luxury property with everything polished to the same standard, and parts of it already felt dated when the hotel was still InterContinental Singapore. Even so, the design is recognisably its own, and the lounge and breakfast were strong enough that we left with a very favourable impression.

## Location

Frasers House is very close to **Bugis MRT**, on the East West Line, which makes the journey from Changi Airport straightforward. It is also only one or two stops from Singapore’s central business district, so the location works for both a short city stay and a night when you want to be near the centre without paying for a hotel directly in the CBD.

The first impression is not of a newly built hotel. The property keeps its Peranakan heritage in the shophouse-style suites and in the decoration across the public areas. There are dark wood panels, carved screens, display cabinets and patterned details throughout, and the effect is more distinctive than the usual modern lobby.

## Check-in

We arrived from Bugis MRT, so we came in through the back entrance rather than the main porte-cochère. The front lobby has the doormen and waiting car shown in the photograph above, while the route from the station brought us into the property from the other side. We went up to the lobby and checked in there.

At check-in, we were told that we had been upgraded to a **Junior Suite**. We had booked only one night, so this was a generous upgrade and we got lucky. It changed the stay quite a bit, because the suite gave us a proper living room rather than just a larger bedroom.

## The room

The **Junior Suite** measures 52 sqm, which is fairly large for most Singapore properties close to the city centre. It opens with a short entrance area, with some white architectural columns. The bathroom is immediately to the right, and past that, the room opens into the work desk and living room.

The living room is the part that made the upgrade feel worthwhile. It is large enough to feel like a separate space, with a sofa and coffee table in front of the television. The sofa is deep enough that it could probably be slept on, which would make this a more practical suite for a family than a room with a decorative two-seat sofa that nobody can use properly.

There are two televisions, one for each side of the suite, and the TV wall acts as the partition between the living room and bedroom. We watched the National Day Parade from the living room, which was a comfortable way to spend the evening. The fireworks were not visible from here, though, so it was not a substitute for a room with a clear National Day view.

The suite also has a wardrobe with a safe, swimming robes and slippers, which can be found near the entrance along the entryway.

The separate drinks pantry is set on a decorative cabinet and comes with a Nespresso-compatible capsule machine, a selection of capsules and some bottles of water. It is a cute little pantry area rather than a coffee machine squeezed onto the work desk, so the desk and living room remain clear.

The bedroom sits on the other side of the television wall. The bed is flanked by two bedside tables and matching wall lamps, with a large patterned panel above the headboard. It is a simpler room than the living area, but it does not need to accommodate a sofa or work desk because those have their own space next door. The floor-to-ceiling windows beside the bed also bring in plenty of daylight.

*Frasers House Junior Suite bedroom and window*

The windows look directly over Bugis Junction, including its red-tiled roofs and glass canopy, with the surrounding office and residential towers beyond. This is more of a neighbourhood view than a wide Singapore skyline view.

The bathroom is more traditional in style, with dark stone counters, a bathtub and a separate shower. Frasers House uses **Byredo’s** **Bal d’Afrique** range throughout. The hand wash sits on a colourful floral tray at the vanity, while full-size bottles of body wash, conditioner and shampoo are mounted in the shower. The bathtub also has its own handheld shower attachment.

We also received a printed welcome letter for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members, which set out the breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktail hours.

The suite received turndown service as well. The welcome amenity of **Peranakan pastries** was delivered afterwards, topped with a purple orchid. The pastry was local Singaporean-style, while the orchid made the presentation lean towards Thai.

## Executive lounge

As Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members, we had access to the Executive Lounge. This is not an access benefit that Luxury Collection hotels are required to provide under the usual Marriott terms, so Frasers House has chosen to keep operating the lounge and to admit eligible guests. That made a difference to a one-night stay, because we could use the property properly without needing to go out for every meal.

*Frasers House corridor with display cabinets and lounge seating*

The lounge offers afternoon tea from **1pm to 5pm** and evening cocktails from **6pm to 8pm**. Newspapers and some magazines were available, and the room had seating for both eating and settling in with a drink. It retains the dark wood, screens and decorative style used elsewhere in the hotel.

### Afternoon tea

The afternoon tea selection was better than the word “tea” sometimes suggests at a hotel lounge. There were savoury sandwiches including a **Chicken Bak Kwa Sandwich**, **Pulled Beef Rendang Sandwich** and **Smoked Salmon & Dill Cream Cheese Sandwich**, along with an **Asian Style Bean Curd Wrap**. The food was arranged in small portions, so it was easy to try several things without turning the plate into an engineering exercise.

### Evening cocktails

The evening spread was wider than the afternoon selection, with both hot and cold food. The cold section included **Mixed Green Salad**, **Virginia Ham & Potato Salad**, **Caprese Salad** and **Roasted Butternut & Smoked Salmon Salad**, with dressings, vegetables, cheese, nuts and dried fruit alongside.

The hot food included **Singapore Dry Wanton Noodle** from the live station and a selection of Chinese breakfast-style or snack items in the steamers. The labels showed items such as **Pork Char Siew Bun**, **Kaya Bun**, **Siew Mai**, **Vegetable Samosa**, **Chicken Siew Mai**, **Fish Cake**, **Pork Ball**, **Tao Pok**, **Quail Egg**, **Mushroom**, **Bean Sprout**, **Chicken Slice**, **Salmon Shrimp**, **Chicken Floss**, **Curry Soup**, **Fish Soup** and **Yellow Noodle**. There was also **Medu Vadai** and another hot buffet with fried items.

The drinks side had a proper cocktail station rather than only wine and beer. The menu listed a **Singapore Sling**, **Appletini**, **Screwdriver**, **Cuba Libre**, **Tequila Sunrise** and **Campari Orange**, with mocktails and sparkling, red and white wines as alternatives. The available spirits included gin, vodka, rum, tequila, whisky and bourbon.

## Facilities

### Pool

The pool is a fairly average size, with a jacuzzi at the side. It is not a reason by itself to choose Frasers House, but it is a reasonable place to spend some time when you are already staying at the hotel. The surrounding terrace and garden continue the property’s decorative style, with fountains and city views.

### Fitness centre

The Fitness Centre is also average in size and overlooks the main driveway and the National Library. There were classes taking place while we were around. When we enquired, we were told that the external provider charged around S$70 or more per lesson.

## Breakfast

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members and above can have breakfast in The Breakfast Room or in the Executive Lounge. We went downstairs to **The Breakfast Room**, located off the lobby, and the wait for a table took at least 10 minutes on the morning after the public holiday.

The wait was the one operational weakness in an otherwise excellent breakfast. Once inside, the selection was one of the best we have had at a hotel in Singapore. It covered yoghurt, pastries, Asian, Indian, Western and other international food, with live stations and enough variety to justify the wait.

The drinks station had water, freshly squeezed **guava juice**, freshly squeezed **orange juice**, **cranberry juice** and full-cream milk. There was a salad section with **corn kernels**, **Japanese cucumber**, **onion**, **julienne carrots**, **capsicum** and **olives**, together with dressings and other toppings.

The cereal area had **pumpkin seeds**, **cashew nuts**, **walnuts**, muesli and the more familiar **cornflakes**, **Koko Krunch** and **Fruit Loops**. The hot buffet covered several Asian and international dishes, while the Chinese breakfast section had bamboo steamers and condiments.

The live noodle station was the most interesting part of the savoury selection. The staton covered **Singapore dry wanton noodle**, **fish cake**, **pork ball**, **bean sprout**, **chicken slice**, **chicken floss**, **yellow noodle**, **fish soup** and **curry soup**, with toppings such as **tao pok**, **quail egg** and **mushroom**. There was also **samosa** and **medu vadai** at the hot buffet.

There was a pancake and waffle station with **freshly made waffles**, pancakes, **peanut butter**, **Nutella** and kaya spread. The bakery and dessert station had pastries, cakes and other sweet items, and there was even gelato in the morning.

## Concluding thoughts

This was a superb stay, helped by the fact that we paid only 44,800 Marriott Bonvoy points on a PointSavers Redemption Rate and then received a Junior Suite upgrade for one night. Frasers House was generous with the upgrade, and the suite gave us a proper living room in which to watch the National Day Parade rather than just a larger bedroom.

The Executive Lounge was also better than I expected, with a substantial afternoon tea, a wider evening spread and a cocktail menu that made the lounge worth using. Breakfast at The Breakfast Room was the strongest part of the stay. The queue took at least 10 minutes, but once we were inside, the variety was excellent and the live noodle station, freshly squeezed juices, Indian and Asian choices, pastries and morning gelato gave us plenty to choose from.

The limitations are mostly about age and price. The pool and Fitness Centre are average, and the property already had some dated details from its InterContinental years. Marriott’s recent devaluation also makes the higher points rates now showing less attractive than the opening block rate that made this stay such an easy decision.

Even with those qualifications, I do think Frasers House lives up to The Luxury Collection name, mainly because the Peranakan design gives the hotel a proper Singapore identity and because the food and lounge experience were better than the room alone might suggest. I would come back, especially if another PointSavers rate appeared, although that seems unlikely. At 44,800 points, it was well worth it.
