This was a work trip to San Francisco on United Airlines flight UA2, and an opportunity I had been looking forward to: trying out the new Polaris Elevated interior (also known as the Polaris 2.0), the airline's refreshed business class product that debuted on the 787-9 in April 2026. United had announced the Elevated interior back in May 2025, promising sliding privacy doors, 4K OLED screens, and a suite-style upgrade to the existing Polaris product. The first aircraft entered service on this...

This is the third of a five-part series from our December 2025 trip to the United States. After New York and Washington D.C., our trip shifted westward to the desert, and the change in scenery could not have been more dramatic. Prologue

This is the first of a five-part series from our December 2025 trip to the United States. We kicked things off in New York City, right in the thick of the holiday season. Prologue
- [Review: Alaska Airlines Lounge (SFO)](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/21/review-alaska-airlines-lounge-sfo.md) ([web](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/21/review-alaska-airlines-lounge-sfo/)) (2026-02-21)
We had previously visited the Alaska Lounge in 2022 when it was still located in Terminal 2 of San Francisco International Airport. In July 2024, the lounge relocated to the newly renovated Harvey Milk Terminal 1. This is not a refurbishment of the old lounge, but an entirely new location within Terminal 1. Naturally, we were curious to see how the move changed the experience. The new lounge was unveiled in July 2024 and designed by William Duff Architects, bringing a noticeably more contempo...

Once a flagship space, Cathay Pacific’s San Francisco lounge now feels dated, yet still offers a quietly comfortable pre-flight stop. We visited the lounge in early January 2026 before our flight back to Singapore, curious to see how it compares with Cathay’s refreshed lounges in Asia. Location and access
- [Review: AutoCamp Yosemite](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/16/review-autocamp-yosemite.md) ([web](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/16/review-autocamp-yosemite/)) (2026-02-16)
We spent two nights at AutoCamp Yosemite in the last few days of December 2025, booking through an OTA because the rate was lower than what AutoCamp was offering directly. It was our first AutoCamp stay and also our first proper glamping experience, and it ended up feeling like a fun detour from the usual chain hotel rather than just another place to sleep.
- [Review: SpringHill Suites by Marriott The Dunes on Monterey Bay](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/14/review-springhill-suites-monterey-bay.md) ([web](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/14/review-springhill-suites-monterey-bay/)) (2026-02-14)
We spent one night at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott The Dunes on Monterey Bay as part of our Pacific Coast Highway drive from Los Angeles. This is an all-suite property, and the rooms feel noticeably more spacious than a typical mid-range hotel. The stay was mixed overall. The room and breakfast were very good, but the check-in experience was frustrating since the hotel was sold out and our room was not ready on arrival. The issue was later resolved, but it did affect our impression.
- [Review: Hampton Inn & Suites San Luis Obispo](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/12/review-hampton-inn-suites-san-luis-obispo.md) ([web](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/12/review-hampton-inn-suites-san-luis-obispo/)) (2026-02-12)
We stayed one night at Hampton Inn & Suites San Luis Obispo towards the end of December 2025, as part of our road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway. After starting the day in Los Angeles and driving north, this hotel was exactly what we needed. It offered simple access with hassle-free parking, a comfortable bed, and breakfast included in the rate.
- [Review: Capital One Lounge (LAS)](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/08/review-capital-one-lounge-las.md) ([web](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/08/review-capital-one-lounge-las/)) (2026-02-08)
We visited the Capital One Lounge at Harry Reid International Airport in late December 2025, right in the midst of the holiday rush, before an early departure out of Las Vegas. Compared to the bigger Capital One lounges, this one is on the smaller side. Still, the basics are done well: decent small plates, a proper bar, and a Grab and Go section that is genuinely useful if you are heading straight to the gate.
- [Review: Horseshoe Las Vegas](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/06/review-horseshoe-las-vegas.md) ([web](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/06/review-horseshoe-las-vegas/)) (2026-02-06)
We stayed three nights at Horseshoe Las Vegas in December 2025 as a base for a Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon trip. If Horseshoe Las Vegas looks familiar, that is because it is. This used to be Bally’s, and while the name on the sign has changed, plenty of the hotel still feels like the old Bally’s. Location
- [Review: Capital One Lounge (JFK)](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/02/review-capital-one-lounge-jfk.md) ([web](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/02/02/review-capital-one-lounge-jfk/)) (2026-02-02)
We visited the Capital One Lounge at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport for the first time while flying transcontinental to Las Vegas. We intentionally booked a Delta flight, simply because it departs from Terminal 4, which made this visit possible. This is Capital One’s flagship lounge, which opened in June 2025. Given how strong the brand’s earlier lounges have been, expectations were understandably high.
- [Review: American Airlines Admirals Club (Concourse E) (DCA)](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/01/31/review-american-airlines-admirals-club-dca.md) ([web](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/01/31/review-american-airlines-admirals-club-dca/)) (2026-01-31)
After visiting Capital One Landing, we made our way to the American Airlines Admirals Club at Concourse E. This was part of a December day trip to the nation's capital, as we were heading back to New York later that evening. This particular Admirals Club is one of the recently renovated ones, as part of a series of refurbishments by American Airlines that will continue throughout 2026. That alone sets expectations a little higher than the older Admirals Club across the network.
- [Review: Capital One Landing (DCA)](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/01/28/review-capital-one-landing-dca.md) ([web](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/01/28/review-capital-one-landing-dca/)) (2026-01-28)
We visited Capital One Landing during a December 2025 day trip to Washington D.C., flying back to New York from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. This was our first time visiting a Capital One Landing. At the time of our visit, this was the only location open, with LaGuardia expected to follow.
- [Review: Cathay Pacific B777-300ER Economy Class (HKG-JFK)](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/01/27/review-cathay-pacific-b777-300er-economy-class-hkg-jfk.md) ([web](https://quietvacationer.com/2026/01/27/review-cathay-pacific-b777-300er-economy-class-hkg-jfk/)) (2026-01-27)
We flew Cathay Pacific economy class from Singapore to New York via Hong Kong (as part of our trip to the United States), after failing to find any redemption availability for late December 2025. It was obviously not an ideal cabin for such a long journey, but given the timing and peak holiday travel, this was simply what was available and at a reasonable price.
