We visited the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport while flying home on Singapore Airlines business class. We also stopped by the Turkish Airlines Lounge and the EVA Air Lounge that evening, so we could compare three of Bangkok’s Star Alliance lounges on the same trip.
SilverKris was the obvious lounge to visit before our Singapore Airlines flight, and it ended up having the most complete food and drinks selection of the three. There was a live laksa station, a larger hot and cold buffet, and a staffed bar with a long list of cocktails and mocktails. I thought the food was okay. It wasn’t exceptional, but there was much more to choose from here than in the Turkish Airlines Lounge.
The lounge itself is on the smaller side, and there are no showers or complimentary massage service. It doesn’t have a long list of facilities, but if I wanted a proper meal and a drink before a flight, this would be my first choice of the three.
Location and access
The SilverKris Lounge is on Level 3 of Concourse D, opposite Gate D7. It faces the gates across the concourse and is open daily from 6.30am to 11pm.
Under the Star Alliance lounge access policy, the main ways to enter are:
- International first or business class on a flight operated by a Star Alliance airline
- Star Alliance Gold status while departing on a Star Alliance flight in any cabin, with one eligible guest travelling on the same flight
International first class passengers may bring one eligible guest, while international business class access doesn’t include a guest. We entered with our Singapore Airlines business class boarding passes.
The entrance is one of the prettiest parts of the lounge. A blue-grey marble wall carries the Singapore Airlines name and SilverKris branding, while a batik screen partly conceals the reception area behind it. This entrance comes from the lounge’s 2017 design by ONG&ONG, which also used Singaporean artwork and locally sourced artwork inside the lounge.
The reception is immediately behind the batik screen, and you can’t see much of the lounge from the concourse.
Layout
This was my first time here after its 2017 renovation. I had last visited in 2016, when the old lounge was looking very dated, and the difference is miles apart. The basic design is almost 10 years old, but I wouldn’t have guessed that from looking around. The marble, batik screens, cream walls and furniture all still look fresh.
Singapore Airlines also refreshed the lounge more recently. It closed for a few days in November 2025 and reopened on 22 November after the work was completed. The airline says the refurbishment increased the seating capacity and added productivity pods and wingback chairs. The blue-grey marble, batik screen and overall look from 2017 remain, so this wasn’t a completely new design.
After reception, you turn right into a long hallway leading through the lounge. The narrow shape makes the lounge feel smaller than it first appears from the entrance.
There are seats arranged on both sides of the hallway. Sofas and armchairs sit to the left, while smaller seating nooks line the windows on the right. The lounge faces across the concourse towards the gates, but privacy frosting on the glass blocks most of the view. You might see more of the aircraft during the day, though I wouldn’t choose one of these seats for a clear tarmac view.
The familiar Singapore Airlines productivity pods are also here. Their high sides give you more separation than the open armchairs, so these are the seats I would look for if I needed to work from a laptop or wanted somewhere with more privacy than sitting near the main hallway.
Most of the remaining space is filled with lounge chairs and armchairs. The cream walls and artwork continue through this part of the lounge, and nothing here looked tired or in need of another refresh.
The bar occupies the middle of the lounge and is nicely done up. It is a proper bar rather than a small drinks counter added beside the buffet. I noticed that the chairs here have changed, so that was probably part of last year’s refresh as well.
A magazine shelf and flight information display separate part of the right-hand seating area from the main walkway.
As mentioned earlier, these are the counter seats facing the windows and the gates, though the frosted glass means the view is much less interesting.
Food and drinks
The food is the main reason I would choose this lounge over the other Star Alliance lounges we visited. There are Singaporean and Thai dishes, a larger hot buffet, a cold buffet, warm snacks, desserts and two brands of ice cream. The quality of what we ate was okay, but there is easily enough here for a full meal before the flight.
The live laksa station is the main feature of the buffet. Laksa is one of the dishes most closely associated with Singapore Airlines’ lounges, and here it is prepared at a staffed counter when you order. The counter sits separately from the row of self-serve hot dishes.
There was also a dedicated chicken rice cart with the usual condiments set out beside it. In the same part of the buffet, the Thai selection included seafood tom yum, which had its own menu card in the hot food display.
The main hot buffet included BBQ pork ribs, stir-fried Chinese vegetables, spaghetti and rosemary-roasted potatoes. Along with the laksa, chicken rice and tom yum, this was a much broader selection than the two main hot dishes we found at the Turkish Airlines Lounge. We didn’t try every dish, so I can’t say which of these would be worth choosing over the others.
The cold buffet had a salad bar, cheese and cold cuts. The selection is pretty good and it is enough to put together a lighter meal if you didn’t want another hot dish before your flight.
There were also warmers holding dim sum, pastries and other hot snacks such as vegetable spring rolls, corn quiche, fried radish cake, and mini ham cheese croissant.
The drinks fridge had coconuts, while freshly cut fruit was available from the same fridge. Other canned and bottled drinks were available alongside them.
Over at the corner, there were some TWG tea, sandwiches and cakes. This section also included luk chup, the small Thai sweets made from mung bean paste and shaped to look like miniature fruit.
The ice cream freezer was out of service during our visit, so we had to ask a member of staff for ice cream. Häagen-Dazs chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice cream were available, while the La Vanille flavours were matcha and Thai tea. The broken freezer was inconvenient, though at least the ice cream remained available once we asked.
The staffed bar has an extensive menu for a lounge of this size, with both cocktails and mocktails. The list included Siam Bliss, Kris Lime, the familiar Singapore Sling and a SilverKris Sling, among several other choices. Alcohol was entirely self-serve at the EVA Air Lounge, whereas the bartender here prepared drinks from the menu.
There was also a separate A Taste of Thai Delight drinks selection featuring sugar-free ginger tea, chrysanthemum & pandan tea, and Thai milk tea.
We had the signature laksa and seafood tom yum with a Siam Bliss mocktail. I thought the overall food quality was okay, with the range being a stronger reason to eat here than any one dish we tried.
Amenities
The lounge has its own washrooms. They are small, but having them inside the lounge is still more convenient than returning to the concourse.
There are no showers and no massage service. Anyone who needs a shower would be better off at the EVA Air Lounge or Turkish Airlines Lounge, while the complimentary 15-minute massage remains the main reason to visit Turkish Airlines. The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge is much more about seating, food and drinks than additional amenities.
Concluding thoughts
The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in Bangkok is not bad at all. It is small and doesn’t have the massage, showers or other facilities that might persuade you to arrive at the airport much earlier, but the lounge itself still looks good. I couldn’t tell that the main design dates from 2017, especially when comparing it with the very old lounge I remember from 2016. I suppose the refurbishment in 2025 helps explain why it still looks fresh.
Food quality was okay, while the live laksa station and broader buffet gave us much more choice than the Turkish Airlines Lounge. The bar is another strong point because the menu is extensive, with drinks such as the Singapore Sling and SilverKris Sling alongside familiar cocktails. Between the three lounges we visited, I would come here for a meal and a drink, Turkish Airlines for the complimentary massage, and EVA Air if I needed a shower.
If I had time for only one lounge before a Singapore Airlines flight, I would come here. It has the best food and drinks selection of the three lounges we visited, and Concourse D is a convenient place to stop before heading to the Singapore Airlines gates which are often nearby. I just wouldn’t mistake it for a lounge with much beyond the food, bar and seating.
